THE MAGNOLIA AMATEUR
Hattiesburg Country Club was founded in 1919 and moved to its present location in 1959. Our club has had a long tradition of hosting premier golf events in the state of Mississippi. In 1968 the Magnolia Classic was started as a PGA Tour event and Hattiesburg Country Club hosted the tournament for 25 years. The event was held opposite the Masters and can claim major winners Payne Stewart and Craig Stadler as past champions. Fred Couples, Tom Watson, Nick Faldo, and Davis Love III (Major Champions) have also walked the fairways of Hattiesburg Country Club.
With this in mind the Magnolia Amateur is looking to become one of the premier amateur events in the South. Hosting up and coming college players who will one day walk the fairways of the PGA Tour as well as established amateurs who are looking to play against the best players in the South. The Magnolia Amateur is a limited field event of 156 players consisting of a collegiate division and a mid-amateur division. The overall champion may come from either division, with the competition taking place over 3 days and 54 holes.
Along with the individual tournament, we will have a college team
competition that will be based on the combined scores of two players on the same team over the 3 rounds. We are looking forward to your participation in our event this year.
